Ealier this week the New York Wine and Grape Foundation (NYWGF) hosted its annual 2009 Unity Banquet in Ithaca.  It was an exceptional evening that was attended by many wine industry leaders including New York's Agricultural Commissioner Patrick Hooker.  There were industry representatives from all across New York and other state wine regions and universities.  Members and spouses from the Thousand Islands Winery staff and Christina Randazzo from Coyote Moon Vineyards in Clayton attended the event.  The La Torrelle Resort and Spa provided a spectacular setting for the evening and served an unforgettable dinner.

Many New York Wine Industry Awards were presented by the NYWGF President, Jim Trezise, during the course of the evening. Those awards included the New York Unity, Industry, Grower, Restaurant, Retailer, Consumer, and Distributor awards.  It also included the "Winery of the Year" which was presented to the Thousand Islands Winery.  This is a huge honor.  This is significant not only for the Thousand Islands Winery but our entire wine region.  This award puts the Thousand Islands Region on the world's wine map for the first time.  National and International attention will be focused on the Thousand Islands Winery and its region throughout 2009.

One benefit from this award will be an increased ability to attract world class winery and vineyard talent to our region.  Ultimately, this will result in winery and vineyard expansions, job gains, and enhance tourism opportunities.  Another exciting development is the fact that the New York Wine and Grape Foundation' Board of Directors has elected to hold its July, 2009 meeting in the Thousand Islands area.
