Who will be Kate Johnston?
Alexandria Bay--- The long awaited Pirate Days are right around the corner, so to speak (Aug. 10-19) and five young women currently are competing for the title of Kate Johnston, daughter of the St. Lawrence River pirate Bill Johnston of the ill-fated Patriots War of the mid-19th century.
Each contestant is raising funds for the Alexandria Township Historical Society's restoration project at the Cornwall Brothers Store on the waterfront. Each dollar raised for the Historical Society by the contestant will be worth one vote. The contestant with the most votes by the deadline of noon Aug. 6 will be this year's Kate Johnston in the weeks festivities.
Participants include:
-- Stacie Mae Brown, sponsored by River Hospital employees, is a resident of Redwood. She has been a nurse for eight years and is pursuing an acting career on the side. Stacie Mae also enjoys modeling and recently participated in the River Hospital Fashion Show. Her hobbies include photography and expression art.
-- Erin Fulton, also a resident of Redwood, is representing Dock of the Bay. She is a sophomore at Herkimer County Community College majoring in photography. A graduate of Indian River, Erin enjoys singing.
--Almara Hutchinson, sponsored by Lil' River Fudge Company, is an Alexandria Bay native. Granddaughter of Norm and Lucinda Hutchinson, she will be a junior at Alexandria Central School in the fall. Almara enjoys playing soccer and tennis as well as acting.

The winner of the contest will receive 25 percent of what she personally raises in the form of a scholarship. This years Kate Johnston will be reining over the weeks activities which include the pirate invasion and parade. Runners-up will also be welcome to take part.
